New Pickup Truck for Fisheries
The Fisheries Division of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries have received a new patrol vehicle from New Zealand aid. At a brief ceremony at Fisheries office at the wharf, the Agriculture and Fishers minister Hon Dalton Tagelagi was handed the keys by Mr Ardern.
Much of the negotiations for the vehicle were carried out by former Director Brendon Pasisi and former Fisheries Officer James Tafatu.
High Commissioner Ross Ardern said that NZ is keen to assist in ensuring the safety of those who venture out to the deep to earn their keep. Further down the track, NZ will also be providing a boat that can be used for routine patrols to ensure the safety of those at sea.
NZ has already upgraded the derrick at Sir Robert’s wharf. Apart from some more tweaking the system has been welcomed by boat owners.
The pickup was delivered to Niue by a RNZAF Hercules that had space available on a routine RNZAF flight to the area.
